Rep. Abby Major visits WIU & Clairview School

PA State Rep. Abby Major visited the Westmoreland Intermediate Unit and toured Clairview School Thursday, January 26.  Staff members shared their passion for education and what a special place it is to work for the WIU & Clairview.  Clairview students were excited to have a visitor and happy to show Rep. Major some of their artwork.


Abby is a Pennsylvania House of Representatives serving the 60th legislative district. The 60th district includes Bethel, Burrell, Cadogan, East Franklin, Gilpin, Kiskiminetas, Manor, North Buffalo, Parks, South Bend, and South Buffalo townships and Apollo, Applewold, Ford City, Ford Cliff, Freeport, Leechburg, Manorville, North Apollo and West Kittanning boroughs in Armstrong County and Allegheny Township, East Vandergrift, Hyde Park, Vandergrift, and West Leechburg boroughs, and part of the city of Lower Burrell in Westmoreland County.

Rep. Abby Major was in awe touring Clairview School, and she said: “It was great meeting with WIU today and learning about the variety of services they offer.  In particular, I was very impressed with Clairview School and the focus on educating children with differing needs in a way that focuses on preparing them for life after school.  It is an incredible asset to Westmoreland County and the surrounding communities.”

The Westmoreland Intermediate Unit’s mission is to provide a collective support system to enhance educational opportunities for our community and the learners we serve.  The vision is to equip all learners for success by providing high-quality, purposeful, and fiscally responsible solutions to community needs.  The Westmoreland Intermediate Unit operates Clairview School, which services the 17 school districts in the county and some school districts outside the county. The population of students have special needs. Clairview School provides educational and therapeutic services for students ages 5-21.
